1443107 Phosphorus pentasulphide HOECHST AG 17 June 1974 [19 Sept 1973] 26719/74 Heading C1A [Also in Division B1] Phosphorus pentasulphide is prepared from the elements at elevated temperature in a reactor through whose lateral walls the reaction temperature is controlled by heat exchange with a substance maintained at a suitable temperature; the base of the reactor is cooled by heat exchange with a system actuated separately and independently of the system surrounding the lateral walls of the reactor. In the preferred embodiment shown in Fig. 1, phosphorus and sulphur are introduced into the reactor (1) via inlets 4 and 5, with removal of the product via outlet 6. The reactor is provided with a jacket (2) through which passes a heat exchange medium, while its bottom is in contact with a heat exchange medium supplied by either of two alternative nozzle systems (see also Fig. 2, not shown).
