<p>A folding device for use with tyre assembly drum esp. a solid steel carcase drum is employed for folding the edge of the carcass fabric around the beading core, when the drum is in its fully expanded condition. The folding device comprises a number of conical fingers each mounted to revolve about its longitudinal axis on a support beam and also a flat pressing roller mounted on an arm on the same beam. The tips of these fingers and the point of the roller furthest from the support beam lie in a generally circular arc corresponding initially to the periphery of the drum, the rotating axes of the fingers, when extended all meeting in the same imaginary point. The support beam is displaceable relative to is support plate and can be pivoted by a drive about a pivot point having an axis perpendicular to the axis of the drum, the pivoting drive can also be traversed parallel to the axis of the drum. The appts. can be used for lifting the edge of the tyre fabric around the beading, folding it over and thus forming the bond between the carcass and the beading, all with completely mechanical operations and without manual intervention. The appts. is space-saving, and simple to operate.</p> |
