The bolt (1) has a plain parallel portion with a screw thread (3) at one end and a tapered section at the other end. The diameter is a maximum at the end (5) and decreases until it meets a shoulder at the edge of the parallel portion. Two half shells (8) with a tapered bore are placed around the tapered portion of the bolt which is then pushed into a close fitting hole in the wall. The object to be supported is placed over the end of the bolt and the nut screwed onto the thread (3). As the nut is tightened, the half shells (8) are forced radially outwards against the sides of the hole to provide a rigid attachment.
