A circular disc (1) has arms (7) pivotted at points round its circumference. Each arm carries a mass (8) at its outer end and has a segmental cam (11) at its inner end which is brought against stop pins (9) projecting from the disc. The arms on one side of the disc are held out radially by the stops while the arms on the other side pivot to hang vertically. The tongue on one side of the disc is thus greater then on the other side and the disc is caused to revolve. A set of fixed gear teeth (13) near the top of the disc engages gears (12) on the segmental cams to swing the arms rapidly from one position to the other.
