Power transformer output control in numerical steps - uses solid state switching of primary windings and has one or two control transformers

The control system is used to regulate the output of a power transformer. There are parallel and series combinations of primary windings, the interconnection being dependant on the requirement at any one time. The control circuit operates in numeric steps and is intended to provide maximum flexibility combined with high speed operation and a minimum of control switches. The circuit uses one or two regulation transformers and a single power transformer which may be an auto-transformer. Two sets of solid state switches control the primary connections via feedback from the load circuit to a pulse generator feeding two registers. A comparator circuit also feeds the registers which in turn control the switches via driver stages.
