<p>The generator for Lissajous figures consists of a sphere (1) mounted in bearings (2) and rotating about a horizontal axis (3). The bearings are supported by a fork (4) attached to a tube (5) which rotates in bearings (7, 12). A central shaft (8) drives the horizontal shaft (3) through friction discs (9, 10). If the ratio of the speeds of rotation about the horizontal and vertical axes is a whole number the spot (26) in the surface of the sphere (1) describes a Lissajous figure. The spot (26) maybe illuminated by a lamp within the sphere or from an external lamp. The spheres may be made of transparent material so that the spot (26) is visible from any direction.</p> |
