Electronic typewriter has dot-matrix printing head and a keyboard by means of which different groups of symbols can be selected, for example mathematical symbols, musical notation and different language alphabets. The particular symbol is visible one or above each key. A symbol group store is associated with the keyboard. The keyboard has additional keys whose operation enables the symbols from a group to be printed in different sizes. A further key enables the particular symbols to be printed at an inclined angle. A working store holds the symbol group which has been selected and is visible on the keyboard.
