Removal of chlorides and Cl cpds. from tar (esp. from coke ovens) is effected by homogenising the tar (largely dehydrated) at 70-100 degrees C. with a 0.01-1% aq. H2SO4 soln. at 70-100 degrees C. in a ratio of tar to aq. H2SO4 of 1-10:1 (pref. 4-6:1). The mixt. is then heated to boiling, cooled, and the purified tar phase sepd. from the phenol-contg. H2SO4 phase, which is opt. partially recycled. Organic Cl cpds. are removed as well as NH4Cl. The concn. of the H2SO4 soln. is pref. 0.03-0.07%, and the mixing temp. is pref. 80-90 degrees C. The mixt. is pref. boiled for 2-10 min.
|
