Hospital records are processed by a specialised form of data processing system incorporating a sample selector (1) an analyser (2), a controller (3), a data reader (4) and a data processor (5) which points out data on a printer (8). Information is also fed in from analysers (6), a document reader (7) and a controller (9). Printed output is in the form of a two part record, one being a record sheet and the other a label. Part of both input and output is in clear text and part in machine readable code. Patient identification data may be fed in from a plastic card bearing relief symbols which may be detected by the equipment. The labels are used for patient samples or treatment prescriptions.
