The circuit for measuring amplitude of pulses is protected by a triac (5) which ensures that peak voltages exceeding the set limit with the divider network (2) are not recorded. The shorting takes place without a delay line or a storage unit and thus enhances the safety of the sensing circuit. During the response of the surge control unit (1), a proportional voltage is fed to the peak sensing unit (4) and to the anode of triac (5) via divider (2) and protective resistor (3). Part of the voltage is transmitted to the electronic threshold detector (6). Excess voltage causes firing of the triac by switching amplifier (7), and therefore, the input of sensing unit (4) is shorted.
