<p>The oxidation of molten metal held in a bath is prevented by depositing a granular compsn. onto the molten metal to separate the metal from the atmosphere. The compsn. consists of amixt. of relatively coarse, medium and fine granules 0.5-0.05 mm. in size. Each globule has a core made up of powdered glass, diatom and aluminium oxide coated with Al or iron oxides. A surface active agent and a binder are also present in the core material. The partitioning layer formed over the molten metal has a depth of 3 - 5 cm. Used for prevention of oxidn. of metals, esp. Pb, Zn, Sn, using material which does not disperse under thermal effect, eliminates pollution and is safer for workers than using organic materials.</p> |
