METHOD OF MAKING FIBRE REINFORCED RESIN TANK

1495862 Forming fibre reinforced cylindrical tanks ERSHIGS INC 9 Dec 1975 [10 Dec 1974] 50435/75 Headings E1S and E1T A cylindrical tank is formed of glass fibre reinforced plastics around a cylindrical shuttering surface formed of flexible shuttering panels 18 e.g. of aluminium braced by segments 40 e.g. of plywood between brackets 26 to form the correct curvature cylinder by laying fibre reinforced resin material against the cylindrical surface and subsequently removing the shuttering. A polyethylene terephthalate release film may be helically wound round the shuttering sprayed with resin and random fibre mats pressed in. Further resin is then sprayed on with choped fibres and then further fibres are continuously helically wound in ascending and descending arrangements and a sealing resin coat applied. A tank may be built up in stages by the superposition of a further similarly formed cylinder. The panels may be 2 feet wide so that tanks of diameters increasing in one foot intervals may be constructed.
