1495909 Contraceptive spermicidal compositions PREPHAR PROSPECTION DE RECHERCHES PHARMACEUTIQUES SA 28 June 1976 [3 July 1975] 26883/76 Heading A5B In a method of contraception there is administered vaginally prior to coitus, a spermicidally effective amount of a 1, 2 - benzoisothiazole derivative of formula (I):- wherein X is oxygen or sulphur; Y is H, NO 2 halogen or a C 1-4 alkyl radical; and R is H, straight or branched C 1-6 alkyl or alkenyl optionally substituted by one or more hydroxyl tertiary amino and/or alkoxy groups; C 3-8 cycloaliphatic; aryl or aralkyl where the aryl group may be substituted by one or more halogen atoms, alkyl and/or alkoxy radicals; or an acyl group -COR' in which R' is C 1-4 alkyl or aryl. The compounds (I) may be administered in the form of compositions with conventional vaginally acceptable excipients, suitable forms including pessaries, creams, effervescent tablets, soluble tablets, and aerosol foaming compositions. |
