SEDIMENT AND WATER SAMPLER

The lowering cable (12) is used to lower the sampler (front chamber (1) closed) to the required depth. Cable (13) should be loose till the sampler is in position. Cable (13) is pulled upword to release the horizontal rod (4, 8) allowing the spring (7) to expand and pushing the horizontal rod (4, 8) and opening the hole in the fiont chamber (1) to allow the water in. The sampler is then raised with the collected water sample. For sampling bed material cable (13) is pulled when the sampler rests on the bed. The release of the horizontal rod (4, 8) will cause the inclined plate attached to the moving steel plate (3) to skim the top layer of the bed sediment. The sediment sample will be contained in the rear chamber (2).
