1495486 Foam coated sheet material TOKIWA LEATHER INDUSTRIAL CO Ltd 4 June 1976 [20 June 1975] 23137/76 Heading B2E A sheet material with a three dimensional pattern thereon, e.g. for decorating walls, furniture and ceilings, is prepared by coating a base sheet of paper, fabric or non woven fabric with a paste comprising a synthetic resin, e.g. polyvinyl chloride, and also a plasticiser, a blowing agent, a stabiliser, a pigment and a colouring agent, heating, e.g. at 120‹C, to dry the layer and delusting with a solvent, e.g. toluene, foaming the coating, e.g. by heating to 190‹C, stabilising the foamed layer by cooling, e.g. with an air stream at 10‹C for 20 seconds, and heating the surface only of the layer, e.g. at 150‹C. Then the foamed layer is hot embossed and cooled and coated with a composition comprising a colouring agent, a plasticiser, a synthetic resin and a solvent on the top surface only of the embossed pattern. A similar coating composition may be applied to the bottom surface of the embossed pattern simultaneously with the embossing process. Fine projections may be formed in the depressed bottom surface of the embossed pattern. Polyvinylidene chloride or polyvinyl acetate may be used in place of polyvinyl chloride.
