<p>1418153 Catheters SHERWOOD MEDICAL INDUSTRIES INC 6 June 1973 [16 Feb 1973] 26941/73 Heading A5R A suction catheter 10 for the removal of gas from a body cavity, comprises an elongate tube 12 having a proximal end 16 connectable to a source of suction and a distal end insertable in a body cavity, a radially outward extending flange 24 at the proximal end, an axial aperture 20, and apertures 26 extending through the wall of the tube 12 adjacent the flange into the lumen 18, whereby at least some gas from the cavity is sucked into the tube through the apertures after flowing over the flange to space the flange from the walls of the cavity. An eye 22 provided adjacent the proximal end is used as a pressure relief hole whereby the user can make or break the suction. The flange may be formed by heating a thermoplastic tube to provide a large ring at the end, or a preformed ring may be attached to the distal end. The flange 24 has an arcuate peripheral surface. In one example, the tube has an outside diameter of about 0.181 inches and a wall thickness of 0.028 inches. The flange 24 has an outside diameter of about 0.265 inches and a radius of curvature of 0.035 inches, and four equi spaced apertures 26 have diameters of about 0.059 inches, the edge of each aperture being no more than 0.015 inches from the face of the flange.</p> |
