In one method of catalyst preparation a tungsten compound is first calcined in air to obtain tungsten oxide which is mixed with phosphoric acid diluted with water and a catalyst promoter and the mixture heated to obtain a paste. The paste is moulded and dried to obtain the catalyst which, by subsequent calcination, can be converted to a more stable and active catalyst. The catalyst may be supported on a carrier and the supported catalyst used in situ in the reaction.</p> |
