1482972 Oxidized polyolefin waxes NITCO CHEMICAL CORP 16 Aug 1974 [20 Aug 1973] 36221/74 Heading C3P [Also in Division C5] C 28-48 alpha-olefin waxes, which are the byproduct of a Ziegler ethylene polymerization process, are oxidized to give products having a melting point (ASTM D-127) of 140-180‹ F., a penetration number (ASTM D-1321) at 77‹ F. of 2-10, and a Saybolt viscosity (ASTM D-88) at 210‹ F. of above 400. The oxidation may be effected with air, oxygen or oxygen/ ozone, either catalytically at a temperature of at least 250‹ F. or non-catalytically at 240-250‹ F. Suitable catalysts are listed, manganese naphthenate being used in examples. The products may be neutralized with an alkali. Use.-As separation aids in the de-oiling of waxes and the de-waxing of oils. |
