The turbines are mounted in pairs on the underside of a raft supported by floats. The turbine rotor transmits its power by a belt drive to generators mounted on the raft. The turbine rotor is surrounded by a cowl which directs the flow of water through fixed blades. The fixed blades impart a helical motion to the water before it impinges on the rotating blades. The entrace to the cowl is attached to a coarse sieve formed by a large number of cables. These cables form a cone which is anchored to the river bed.
