Floor covering or mats are produced from waste pneumatic tyres by removing the tread section from the tyres; cleaning the cutting and inner surfaces of the longitudinal strips of the tread sections; coating the faces with a vulcanising material; and pressing the assembly in a mould at a vulcanising temp. Pref. two layers of strips extending at right angles to each other are laid together such that the inner surfaces face each other and the assembly is moulded at a vulcanising temp. Alternatively the strips may be offset transversely w.r.t. each other. The prods. are for domestic, industrial and agricultural application. Waste which is costly to dispose of is converted economically into useful articles.
