A resetting facility for mechanical roller type counters allows any counter state to be manually charged. A gear coupled to the wheel of a specific counter decade is indexed through one digit each time an actuator rod is operated to pivot a lever. A release thumbwheel has a shaft that is cut away to provide an interlock. When the flat is in the bottom position the lever is in the correct position to make contact with the gear when the reset button is operated. If the thumbwheel is indexed such that the spindle contacts the lever, operation of the reset button produces no change in the counter state.
