The combustion engine exhaust silencer is built up from one or more sheet metal components which, between them, form one or more passages (8) for the exhaust gas. The components may be in aluminium, or may be in different metals. The components may be produced without the use of cutting tools. A perforated internal tube may be inserted through the unit. The tube may be completely surrounded by mineral wool, thus filling the space between outer housing and internal tube.
