The seat which is made of a resiliently mouldable foam material is provided to at the back with one or more indentations (3) designed to hold inserts (5) which control the deformability of the foam. These inserts which pref. also consist of a resiliently deformable plastics foam can be inserted in the indentations to a greater or lesser depth so that the incline of the back rest can be adjusted through pressure exerted by the user. The indentations are pref. provided in the back level with the seat surface of the chair (1). The indentations and inserts are preferably wedge-shaped so that a flush appearance is provided with the inserts fully inserted.
