The record player arm vibration damping mechanism consists of a sound pick-up arm (11) with a main (12) and an auxiliary arm (13). The latter is pivotally attached to enable it to swing freely in a vertical plane. A counter-balance weight (20) is attached to the end of the main arm. A damping unit (23) also attached to the main arm, includes a carrier plate (24), two permanent magnets enclosing an air gap into which swings a thin arc shaped electrically conducting leaf (22). The system also includes a leaf strip (31), typically of phosphor bronze, with its own carrier (30) and balance weight (32). These components have valves selected to provide the required resonant valves.
