Gas cooled reactor shutdown heat removed by steam system - containing secondary evaporator system coupled to primary boiler drum

The system is intended esp. for gas-cooled, high-temp. reactors contained in a pressure vessel and comprising an auxiliary heat exchanger, blower and drive motor. A primary heat exchanger, comprising La Mont boiler surfaces, is incorporated in the reactor pressure vessel while the associated primary boiler drum is located outside the pressure vessel. This primary evaporating system is connected to a secondary evaporating system consisting of a secondary drum and secondary evaporating surface in which secondary steam is generated by the shutdown heat. Pref. the primary drum and secondary drum are combined into a twin drum system, esp. with a vertical axis. Used for rapid removal of shutdown heat after an emergency shutdown.
