The shaft (5) of an electric motor is provided with a disc brake actuated by the spring (9) and released by the armature (8) controlled by the electro-magnetic spool (1). The end of the armature is of spherical form (11) and matches the recess (12) on the spool housing (2). When the brake lining (6) wears during use, there is a corresponding increase in the air gap with conventional electro-magnetic brakes which reduces the magnetic force. With this design of armature and spool housing, the increase in the air gap (14) is less than the reduction in thickness of the brake lining (6) and so the necessary magnetic force is maintained despite lining wear.
|
