A leak test may be carried out by isolating any appliances connected to the pipes and manually holding the plunger down on the seat 34. If a leak is present in the system then fluid from the inlet pipe passes through a bleed hole 25 in the plunger and a nozzle 24 into a liquid 21 in a transparent cup 20. The fluid does not mix with the liquid chosen to fill the cup and the fluid bubbles through the liquid to the leak outlet and provides a visible indication. If there is no leak then no fluid-flow takes place.
