An apparatus and a method for supplying a DC power are provided to improve a waveform of an input current and reduce the cost of materials by detecting an operation load and controlling an active filter based on the detected operation load. An apparatus for supplying a DC power includes an active filter(310), an operation load detection part(330), a switching control part(320), a smoothing part(340), and an inverter(350). The active filter(310) reduces a harmonic wave of a power current, rectifies a power voltage, and boosts up a smoothed voltage. The operation load detection part(330) detects an operation load of a motor. The switching control unit(320) controls a switching part according to a PWM(Pulse Width Modulation) signal based on the detected operation load and a zero voltage across point of the power voltage. The smoothing unit(340) smooths an output voltage of the active filter(310) to a DC voltage. The inverter(350) converts the smoothed DC voltage into an AC voltage.
