Automatic moulding, casting and hardening machine - for the continuous mfr. of steel balls used in ball mills

Balls used in ball mills esp. for processing cement or similar bodies employed in milling operations, are cast in a continuous process in which moulds are made and then fed past a casting station; the cast balls are continuously removed from their moulds and are pref. hardened. The pref. moulding and casting machine consists of an endless conveyor belt fitted with a continuous row of moulding boxes and fed through a series of work stations: providing (a) loading, where moulding sand is poured into the open boxes. (b) moulding, where patterns are pressed into the sand to make the moulds. (c) casting, where a dosed amt. of molten metal is poured into each mould. (d) stripping, where a rotary sieve is used to separate the balls from the sand, and (e) hardening, where the balls travel along a pipe fed with a current of air and provided with external water cooling.
