<p>1494887 Sintered bodies made from cryogenically crushed metal FORD MOTOR CO Ltd 18 May 1976 [6 June 1975] 20561/76 Heading C7D Sintered metal bodies are made from cryogenically crushed metal powder which is impacted at ambient temperature e.g. ball milled, with Cu elements which are at least 50 times as large as the largest powder particle, the cold worked powder which is coated with Cu from the impacting elements then being compacted and sintered. The process is particularly applied to low alloy steel scrap turnings with a surface to volume ratio of at least 60:1, the turnings being refrigerated with liquid N 2 to below -40‹F, ball milled at this temperature with iron balls and then ball milled at ambient temperature with ¢" Cu balls. The Cu coated powder is then pressed and sintered con- ventionally.</p> |
