1495353 4-O-Alkyl-ascochlorins CHUGAI SEIYAKU KK 4 April 1975 [9 April 1974] 13995/75 Heading C2C [Also in Division A5] Novel derivatives of the antibiotic ascochlorin represented by the formula wherein R is an alkyl radical having 2-4 carbon atoms are prepared by selectively alkylating the hydroxyl radical at the 4-position of ascochlorin in the presence of a basic condensing agent. The derivatives are useful in pharmaceutical compositions for the prevention and treatment of arteriosclerosis (see Division A5).
