1483088 Composite filter ASAHI KASEI KOGYO KK 17 Sept 1974 [17 Sept 1973 5 April 1974] 40563/74 Heading B1D [Also in Divisions C3, C6 and D2] Wine and beer are filtered through a composite filter comprising:- (a) polyamide fibres having an average thickness of from 0.05 to 10 microns and an average length of from 0.5 to 100 mm; (b) at least one finely divided (i.e. of average particle size 0.1 to 100 microns) oxide, hydrated oxide or hydroxide of Al, Ti, Si or Zr; and (c) cellulose fibres having an average thickness of from 5 to 50 microns and an average lengths of from 1 to 100 mm. The composition may be made into a slurry and sheeted by conventional means. Preferably the composition also contains an N-alkoxymethylated polyamide. Wine and beer so treated contain considerably reduced quantities of haze-forming protein polyphenols and anthocyanogens whilst the isohumalone content of beer is only slightly reduced.
