This invention relates to novel rhodium carbonyl salts of metals having the formula M[Rh12(CO)30] wherein M is a select class of divalent metal cations. These compounds are useful catalysts in the reaction between carbon monoxide and hydrogen to produce oxygenated compounds such as methanol, ethylene glycol, glycerine and 1,2-propylene glycol as described in application Ser. No. 371,350, filed on even date herewith.
