They may be prepared by the halogenation of 2,6,10-trimethylundecan-1-ol. The latter compound may be prepared by dehydrating 7R,11R-phytol, treating the resulting product with ozone gas to form various ozonides, followed by reduction with a complex metal hydride to give a mixture of the above compound and 3,7,11-trimethylundecan-1-ol which may be separated by fractional distillation. |
