Fuse with closely controlled characteristics - includes compound element with spiral winding about central core

The improved type of fuse element permits very close control of the fuse characteristics when the properties of the wire available for production vary from batch to batch. The fuse consists of a glass or quartz tube (1) provided with end-caps (2) between which the element is stretched. The element itself consists of a straight wire (3) with a second wire (4) wound around it in a spiral. By slight variations in the pitch of the winding, a close control of the characteristics can be effected. The inertia can be up to ten times that of a simple wire element fuse.
