<p>1492190 Vehicle steering systems TRW Inc 6 Feb 1975 [25 Feb 1974] 5185/75 Heading B7H A vehicle steering system 100, Fig. 7, includes two independent fluid control systems each comprising a fluid controller 160 or 162 having a flow metering mechanism and a valve for controlling fluid flow to a steering cylinder 208 or 224, the fluid controllers 160, 162 being operably coupled through respective couplings 152, 154 to respective fluid motors 134, 138 connected in parallel across the working ports 108, 110 of a further fluid controller 102 having a steering-wheel operated input shaft 112. The steering system illustrated in Fig. 7, is said to allow vehicle steering in the event of one of the fluid control systems becoming inoperative, and to allow manual steering in the event of failure of the three fluid supply pumps 114, 180, 194. In normal operation, the fluid controller 102 supplies differential fluid flows to the fluid motors 134, 138 so as to cause the fluid controllers 160, 162 to supply differential fluid flows to the steering cylinders 208, 224 in accordance with the differential effective crosssectional areas thereof. The fluid controllers 102, 160, 162 may each take the form of the fluid controller 10 depicted in Fig. 1. The fluid controller 10 comprises working ports 34, 36 and an input shaft 16 coupled to an axiallymovable spool valve 37 operably connected by a wobble shaft 39 to the inner gear 20 of a geroter metering mechanism.
