The electrical generator has an input shaft connected to the output shaft of a turbine using a bolted coupling. When assembling, the bolts are tensioned by heating their length. Each bolt has a hole axially through its centre and a conductor of electricl current is fitted into the hole. The conductor has a first part which is connected to a source of alternating current, this being a controlled output welding transformer. The second part of the conductor is in electrical contact with the hole sides and the resulting electrical circuit generates an inductive magnetic field which heats and bolt internally. |
