A method for controlling menu item display is provided to allow a user to make fast selection with menu items by displaying available menu item in enabled state while displaying unavailable menu item in disabled state. A method for controlling menu item display comprises the steps of: selecting user-available main menu items by discriminating the type of a loaded disk, the type of files recorded on the disk, and the number of each type of files(S12,S13,S14); and displaying the selected menu items in enabled state, and displaying the rest of the menu items in disabled state or not displaying(S16).
