<p>The onions are agitated on and conveyed along a horizontal grill of spaced, longitudinal, parallel bars. The tails extend through the grill to be trimmed off by cutters on the underside of the grill. The grill is now simultaneously given a transverse, reciprocating motion in a horizontal plane. The reciprocating motion is pref. transmitted to the grill by a connecting rod from a power-driven eccentric. The throw of the eccentric is pref. adjustable to alter the amplitude of the transverse reciprocating. The grill is pref. set in a frame carried on rollers and fitted with side guides. Used for trimming bulbs, esp. small onions to be pickled or to be transplanted for growing on. The added transverse motion results in all the onions being trimmed. The machine can be adjusted to handle different sizes of prod. simply by changing the grill. The grill is easily removable for servicing the cutters.</p> |
