Supersatd. massecuite is cooled in downflow crystallisers and then sepd. by centrifuging. Between crystallisation and centrifuging, the massecuite is subjected to a slow, progressive heating. This reduces the compactness of the massecuite and so facilitates different centrifuging without even partial remelting of the crystals during heating. The heating pref. takes place in a vertical, cylindrical vessel in which the massecuite rises countercurrent to a descending flow of a heating fluid, e.g., in a spiral coil. The temp. differential between the massecuite and the heating fluid is pref. 5 degrees C.
|
