A hollow rolling mill cylinder is produced from a cylindrical blank (10) by means of internal and external forming operations, together with intermittent heating and annealing. The external shoulder (14) is first produced by extrusion. A cylindrical hole (26) is then formed by reverse extrusion and a subsequent drawing operation. The open end of the cylinder is then reduced in diameter until its size and shape is identical to the shoulder (14) produced first. The roller end (16) is now completely closed so that only the middle section of the roller is hollow.
|
