Lock for cycle handlebar or saddle stems - in which split stem is formed with frusto=conical interior surface engaged by disc tightened by bolt

A device for securing a cycle handlebar stem (1) (or saddle pillar) in the steering head tube comprises the replacement of the customary truncated cone by a disc (2) of smaller dimensions. The stem (1) is locked in the steering tube by forming the stem (1) as a split tube having an interior surface which is frusto-conical and engaged by the disc (2). The disc (12) has a screw-threaded opening in which is engaged a bolt (3) placed in tension. Once the stem (1) has been locked in the steering tube, the tension bolt (3) may be removed. Since the device uses little material, there is an appreciable weight saving.
