The searing oven has a transit chamber with an inlet aperture and an outlet aperture, which apertures are provided with swing doors. A conveying device (17), on which the slaughtered animals are suspended, passes through the upper part of the transit chamber. The two side walls of the transit path are electrically heated by means of heating elements (5). No noise is produced and a substantial amount of energy is saved in comparison with gas or oil burners, which require air for combustion and are very noisy during operation. The searing oven is intended especially for use in a slaughterhouse for pigs. <IMAGE>
