PURPOSE:To obtain a data recording medium capable of keeping data recording characteristics such as a C/N ratio, an erasure ratio or the like regardless of the number of repetitions of recording and erasure by setting the recording layer provided on a substrate to a specific range of an element compositional ratio in a layer direction. CONSTITUTION:When (n) kinds of elements M1, M3...Mn (n>=2) are contained in the recording layer provided on a substrate and the mean atom content of Mi (1<=i<=n) is set to Pi (%) and the atom content of Mi over the certain thickness (l) between the interface and other interface of the recording layer is set to pi (l) (%), the recording layer has an element compositional ratio in a layer direction satisfying formula ¦Pi-pi(l)¦/Pi<=0.2 [wherein SIGMA<n>iPi=100, 0<l<L (L: the thickness of the recording layer)]. All of known materials can be used as the material of the recording material but (n) is pref. 2-7 and a composition to which a calcogen type binary compound such as Ge-Te, Sb-Te or In-Te, a calcogen tertiary compound such as Ge-Sb-Te, In-Sb-Te or Ag-In-Te or a mixture thereof and an additive element are added is used. |
