Sampling appts. for obtaining a fixed amt. of molten metal utilises a mould with walls forming the periphery of a mould cavity open at both ends, one mould wall possessing a channel for filling, whereas a clamping device with two opposed cheeks co-operates with the mould to close the cavity. The clamping device is pref. attached to a support and employs a fixed cheek and a mobile cheek, while the filling channel pref. consists of a fused silica tube; and a second sample tube with a small dia. is also connected to the mould. A screen is pref. employed to prevent molten metal splashing onto the mould and several alternate designs are provided. |
