This addition relates to the cleaning of waste gases contg. SO2 in which Ca-S cpds., which are formed, are oxidised by air to CaSO4. An improvement is obtd. by providing the air-oxygen, which is required for the oxidn. of Ca bisulphide, in the region of the washer, pref. in the acid water of the scrubber. The air-oxygen is introduced into the scrubber by the suction fan and/or into the outlet pipe system of the wash liquid and oxidation is effected by means of compressed air and/or conc. oxygen.
