A carrier layer of cellulose fibres and a thermoplastic resin, whose quantity amounts to at least 15% of the dry weight of the layer, is applied on at least one side in a web-forming stage in a sandwich arrangement to a covering layer of cellulose fibres. The resulting composite web is heated to a temperature not below the softening point of the thermoplastic resin and the layers are pressed together. The multi-ply paper produced in this way can readily be printed and more easily calendered and embossed than conventional pulp papers. |
