A sludge evacuating plant consisting of a long tank, has that part of the vessel into which the suspension sludge is fed, sepd. from the rest by partitions incorporating filters. In the sludge water compartment, there is a suction box joined by a pipe to a float, which is connected in turn by a flexible pressure hose and values to suction and to a source of compressed air. The valves in the lines to suction and to the compressor are solenoid controlled, or for the compressed air line, a valve of the type which closes automatically when the flow through it is excessive, may be used. On the underside of the suction box, there are openings through which water can be sucked in or air blown out, so that the float can be made to fall and rise alternately. The arrangement is cheap to mfr. and efficient and reliable in operation, in contrast to the conventional perforated drum with a scraper and suction box. With only one suction pump and a small compressor a range of tanks can be cleaned continuously. |
