The lends of the small cine camera is driven by a spring loaded lever coupled to a ratchet driven cam. The cam normally holds the lens in its focussed setting, with the driving ratchet tooth in a wide gap. If the shutter release is pressed further down onto a spring loaded stop at the end of the scene, a second ratchet tooth indexes the ratchet wheel so that the first ratchet tooth, which is linked to the cone motor drive, can move the cam through 180 deg. and gradually defocus the scene, until a cam switches off the motor. At the start of the next scene the focus is gradually restored to fade it in the next scene, with the cam returned to its original setting. The system provides smooth fade-out and fade-in without requiring double exposure and film rewind.
|
