Wallpaper, provided on its reverse side with a water-activated adhesive, has at least the layer which carries the adhesive layer formed of a water absorbent paper or material. Used for the direct application of wallpaper to a wall to be decorated. Unwinding or roll is unnecessary as whole roll is dipped into water. Pref. the wall paper is made of a wholly absorbent paper which is printed on one side and provided with the adhesive layer on the other side. Prior to use the roll is dipped into a water container, removed from the container and the paper is applied to the wall after a predetermined time. Alternatively, the wallpaper is laminated and consists of a printed pattern carrier and an absorbent layer whiih is treated with the water activated adhesive. Adhesive, which may be rubber soln., may be sprayed on and dried.
